Eugene Robert Veinotte
VEINOTTE, Eugene Robert - passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at home in West
Northfield. Born in Bridgewater
on February 24, 1947, he
was the son of the late Lester Eugene and Pauline Vivian (Langille) Veinotte.
He is survived by his wife, Lana Gail (Poole); son, Andy (Cheryl), West
Northfield and twin daughters, Anne, Halifax and Angela (Nathan) Hirtle,
Hubley; grandchildren, Dustin, Jacob and Emily; brother, Bruce (Heather) and
sister, Catherine Robar. He was predeceased by brother-in-law, Foard Robar. He
graduated from New Germany
Rural High School,
Acadia University
(BSc, Applied Science Diploma, ’69) and NS Tech / Dal Tech (B.Eng. ’71). In
1971, he became a resident engineer for the Department of Transportation as
well as a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia.
In 1989, he received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Department of the
Environment for Outstanding Service in the protection and preservation of the
Nova Scotia Environment. A Certificate of Recognition of Volunteer Services was
received in 2000 from the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg (MODL). He
was an active (1973-2001) and honorary fireman of Northfield District Fire
Department, as well as a member of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church. He was
president of the West Northfield Community Centre for 30 years. He also served
as a member of the Planning Advisory Committee for the MODL. Eugene
received the Better Business Bureau of the Maritime Provinces Incorporated
Community Achievement Award in 2003. Since 1973, he managed L.E. Veinotte &
Sons Well Drilling and continued as owner/operator until 2017. He received the
Driller of the Year Award in 1995 and the W.E. Brown Founders Award in 2004 for
excellence and support in the water well drilling industry. He was involved
with installations of geothermal heating systems since 2007. He was a member of
the Goulds Professional Dealers Association since 1987. Eugene
was well respected by everyone he knew and in particular, people he worked with
throughout his career in the well drilling industry from Ontario
to Newfoundland. Mustangs and
happy faces helped him stay positive even while living with cancer for 17
years. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m.,
Friday, March 24 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, March 25 in St. Andrew’s
Anglican Church, West Northfield, Rev. Mellanie Cohoon officiating with a
private family interment in Maple Grove Cemetery, West Northfield. A reception
will follow at the Northfield District Fire Hall. In lieu of flowers or
